Summer Assignment #3: Blog Posting
For your second assignment you and your classmates will participate in an online discussion of your summer reading "Love and Hate in Jamestown." In order to complete your assignment you must do the following:
(1) Send an email to Mr. Vandsburger ([email protected]) with a suggestion of a discussion prompt, question, or opinion that you would like your peers to respond to.
(2) Your prompt will be finalized and as a blog thread will be posted to the website.
(3) Your peers will respond to your discussion thread and you will respond to the threads of others.
To receive full credit for this assignment you will need to (a) submit your discussion prompt, (b) respond to at least 3 prompts posted by your peers, (c) react to the responses of your peers to your initial thread. In total you must have a minimum of 5 posts to receive full credit.
Suggestions for your prompt submission:
- Create a prompt that directly addresses one of the major themes of the summer reading book (up through chapter 10).
- The prompt should allow your peers to take a position in their response. Make it something they can agree or disagree with, support or go against.
- Create the context you want your peers to focus on. If you want them to discuss something that relates specifically to the Jamestown colonists then state that clearly, if you want it to be about Native culture then state that clearly in your prompt.
Suggestions for your responses:
- Reply directly to the ideas and questions of your peers by taking a specific position (agree, disagree, support, refute, etc)
- Use specific evidence from the text to support your position
- Pose questions and implications that come up as a result of the ideas expressed by you and your peers
